Yes but

I would just mount the old drive in the new xp machine and copy over the 
files.
xp will see the drive and have no problems reading the drive.
I use this method every month

enjoy

PS instead of changing the master/slave setings on drive I just 
disconnect cdrom and use its cable. there should be a spare power cable 
installed
