The easiest way to accomplish what you're after would be to download a
minimal install cd for stable and install that. Then edit your
/etc/apt/sources.list file and change every instance of 'stable' to
'testing'. Except for security.debian.org, of course. Like so:

deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ testing main non-free contrib
deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US testing/non-US main contrib
non-free
deb http://security.debian.org stable/updates main contrib non-free

Do an 'apt-get dist-upgrade', and then you're all current with testing's
latest and greatest.
