Find H+V synch numbers

I'm trying out Knoppix 3.3 and I'm stuck at 640x480 resolution.
Is there some way to find out what my synch values should be at higher
resolution ?
The monitor is an HP D2804A Super VGA, and it's capable of 1024x768 with 24
bit color.

Google wasn't much help.
I downloaded what was supposed to be the Manual, but all it did was explain
what the six knobs and the power button on the front did ;)
