[EDIT]

IIRC, they're down in /usr/share/icons, maybe under the program
names, they
might be hidden directories too.
I'll have to dig around to find out.
There are several sizes, the larger images are stored as png
files, the
smaller as xpm files.
Use konqueror's search for *.png and *.xpm and you'll find a _HUGE_
list of them.

I diddled with my icons shortly after installing Mandrake, but the
GIMP
gave me fits, so I did it in Windows.
I remember working in Windows with the .bmp, then saving as .ico,
then
converting to .png or .xpm as size dictated.

There's a great FREE program for Windows [ it's also supposed to run
perfectly in WINE, but I've never been able to get WINE to do
ANYTHING]
called IrfanView that can resize and save as all the different image
formats [with the plugins, audio , video, graphic, who knows what
else].

Once I'd done the creation, editing, and conversion on the Windows
side,
I just jumped the fence and used Konqueror Super User to copy
them from
the Windows partition to where they needed to reside for Linux to
find
them.

For a while, when I was first trying to get the feel of it
[Mandrake], I
built a theme where all of my Windows icons were replaced with the
comparable one from KDE/Mandrake ;-)
i.e.. WordPad used KWord's, CDPlayer used Kcd, etc.

As an aside, does anyone know where the CURSOR images are kept ??
I hate that b/w arrow - I want the big RED one that I made.
