I originally though this was a problem with OpenOffice. After checking
their mail lists it was a "Known problem" with Redhat. This is the
original problem discription I sent to their list and one of the
replies:
After playing with this periodically for several days and trying all
different XF86 setting, it still does the same. Any other suggestions?
Is there a specific file that OOo gets display settings from or sets
it's own? Should I uninstall OOo 1.0 . I like OOo and would rather use
it than something else.
Thank you
Bob

After installing Red Hat 9.0 with Open office 1.0 I needed to change the
Xfree86 Display resolution. All programs picked up the change perfectly
except for Open Office. Is there a text file that stores default screen
resolution settings for OO.o that I can edit? Currently the file menu
uses about 90% of my 19" monitor. Most other programs had things smaller
at the increased resolution, however OO.o went the other way. Everything
is to large to use. I even downloaded and attempted to install OO.o1.1
and the setup has the same problem. I cannot view what is in the setup
window. If I'm not mistaken Galeon or Firebird had a similar problem but
Mozilla does not. It however displayed certain font in web pages
extremely large. Not the menu bar and the whole window.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is a known RH9 problem with XFree86 and it tickles OOo. Please try
resetting all your settings in XF86Config either manually or via
/usr/bin/redhat-config-xfree86 (menu item)
It seems to me that XFree86 does not record the changes properly and the
reset exercise does work. I have also tried setting the display from
scratch. Both have worked for me.
