Hey hey,
Cygwin's not too bad. It adds a nice compatability layer onto a normally
horribly standard-incomplient operating system. However, compiling your
own software can, at times, be slightly problematic. Get used to
sym-linking, cause nothing compiles without EVERYTHING being in /usr/lib
and /usr/include. Other than that, it's extremely solid, and one of the
best ways to get X running within windows (for those that like taking
advantage of the fact that X is a network-exportable windowing system
^_~)
