Instant messaging

You probably want to look into jabber, its one of the top IM
Solutions for linux and is quite mature.

Does anyone know of an Instant messaging server software that can be set
up on Redhat 9.0? I want to let people IM each other in our office and
other offices. We are currently using a MS Exchange messaging server and
the license will be running out.
