"rpm -qa | grep whatever" will search your rpm database for installed 
rpms, with whatever being some sort of name your searching for, start 
small and increase as necessary, etc. Your rpm database might be boned, 
last I remember, you were still running an rc. You could manually search 
the file /var/log/rpmpkgs for a listing of the rpms installed.
As far as your pc running gmplayer, I saw that you are still running a 
266mhz pc?! I think it's probably a small miracle your running mplayer 
or gmplayer let alone having it hang when you try to jump through a 
file. Xine may handle it better but just the fact it's workin on that 
ol' girl is quite an accomplishment. IMHO.
