Kernel Compile Question

I am going to try to compile the 2.4.23 kernel and I am just wondeing 
what exact options do I have to include to have my network card operate. 
I know I need tulip (i know for sure that is the driver it needs) and 
dhcp support. Am I missing anything ? other than those two option I was 
wondering if I need anything else because my last 4 tries with the 
2.4.22 kernel failed when it came to the network card.
