Web Thumbnail Generation Script

What I want to do it put a bunch of images (mostly jpegs) in a directory
with subdirectories and have a Web script that will show all these images
as thumbnails (automatically generated), Then you click on the image and
get the real picture. I don't want to have to create thumbnails. Does
anyone know of a nice script that does this?
