Sorry I don't get enough time to properly participate in the group.
There has been a true flurry of news lately, and now I have to try and
summarize.. LOL

OK, here goes

1. Joe Bielli, yes, the first post you sent did seem like a
"salesman troll".. no offense intended.. But I must say that I
really like the idea of a 'linux friendly' ISP.. there are SO FEW of them
around. You may not be familiar with who I am, but I work for
*cough* Adelphia (Please NO FLAMES, my asbestos underwear is only for
work hours ;-) ) and have actually heard the statement used
in the tech center that "Linux is just for hackers" when I
tried to advocate some general linux training to the phone
techs..

At any rate, I think the offer of the space is an awesome gesture by a
linux friendly ISP, hopefully your company will become one of the major
players in the Buffalo area, unfortunately I live in Olean, so it's not
possible for me to benefit from the discount offer. (any tech
positions open?? :-) )

2. Bob Meyer.. I truly enjoyed reading the advice you gave on the
issue that peter is/(hopefully was) having with the scsi drives, advice
like that is one of the reasons that I enjoy being in this group so much,
even though I haven't been able to make a meeting yet due to work
schedule.. (that's the worst part of "moving up", it puts you
back down to the bottom of the feeding chain on seniority)

3. My apologies to Brad, I have never worked with midi at all, and
have NO clue on how to help ya there.

4. As far as contacting group members, I agree that if/when a
change is to be made, it should be posted on the web-page for any
'extremely new' members to be, that may not be on the mailing list, but I
think that the mailing list 'should' be sufficient for any current
members, as any that do actually have/take the time to make meetings
would likely be ones that do read the emails.

5. As far as the VNC thread, I agree on 2 points:
<x-tab> </x-tab>1.
VNC is all that it's 'cracked' up to be, have used it at work, very good
remote agent
<x-tab> </x-tab>2. I
also would not use pc-anywhere even if they did port a linux version..
just my $.02
Also remember, if you are connecting from one linux/unix box to another,
and no firewall issues are forthcoming, you can also use xhost to display
the Xterm on a remote box, I have also done this from a Solaris box at
work to my workstation at home.. very cool indeed.. this can also be done
through ssh so that all communications are secure, this would obviously
be the 'preferred' method of doing this..

Well, I think that catches me up a bit, sorry to all if you got bored and
fell asleep at your keyboard while listening/reading my banter, guess
that will teach me to only check my email twice a week ;-)

On a lighter note, I have recently been introduced to 'temple of the
screaming penguin' website, and ran across one of their articles
that had me just rolling.. thought it would be a nice gesture to reward
the truly brave (read bored LOL) individuals that actually made it this
far, to include the URL so that others may have a laugh also..
Thanks for your time, (I now return you to your regularly scheduled
programming[perl?])
Still hoping to make a meeting..
