dns question

Hmmm... as I recall, CNAMEs are supposed to be FQDNs (with the trailing '.')
Why bother with a CNAME record when you can use a real A record for each.
Common practice is to do something like:

@
(SOA and NS stuff)
	IN	A	xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
www	IN	A	xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
