Thanks for the info.  THe split part I was familiar with since my Uncle reran
new runs for my mother who had a whole bunch of splitters and was getting
horrible reception.  When he was finished reducing the number of splitters and
putting in new wire they called me because they had no internet connection.  I
told them the same thing (although I was guessing at the time)  make sure no
splitter or signal booster is between the mail splitter and the pole.  They
changed the cable and it all worked.
