routing/DNS

We experience the same problem at odd intervals. Usually, if we just leave it
alone, it sorts itself out. Lame servers on their part. Personally, I wonder if
the DHCP setup they have isn't flakey.

Check out www.samba.org
One very cool aspect of the Samba download is that it now includes
O'Reilley's "Using Samba" in HTML. Just about every question you can
imagine is answered somewhere in it. You can get a functional setup just by
looking at the comments in the smb.conf file.

The mailing list is very good. Nicely tolerant of "newbie questions". I've
asked a couple. You'll get the "RTFM", but usually w/ "chapter and verse"
included.

It's NOT a replacement for a router, the context of the "Adlephia connections
suck" and then the Samba question make me wonder what you're trying to
do. We use it here to not need an NT server. Works wonderfully well, has
since July '98. (It's so much fun to LIE to all those M$ workstations! :-D )
We're using 2.0.7, mostly cause I've been too much of a weenie to mess w/
upgrading on a nicely functioning production box.

Are you using DHCP on your local network? That may explain the RedHat
box's IP address. Not sure though. I assigned static IP's to my home
network cause it just seemed easier.
