Mandrake8.1 on older hardware

I installed Mandrake 8.1 on some older hardware I had laying arounf (pentium
166 I think and scsi drives. 
THe install seemed to go OK but the server is NT flaky (I know thats bad)
services quit for no reason, services dont work as expected the serverlocks up
and I have to use l-alt sysreq stuff to reboot it.  all kinds of stuff.  I am
assuming that if I scoured logs they may help me see whats up but I am not sure
where to view system logs (the NT equivalent system logs ) and what to look for
?

Any hints (Ill probably bring the box to the meeting to get some hands on
help...
