Password weirdness in Mandrake 8.1

I don't believe that this is correct.  The old login scheme would only
accept the first 8 characters, but with newer programs superceding (such
as PAM, Kerberos, etc), I believe that it nows takes up to the first 16
characters.

I could dbl-chk the PAM site, but that would take too much effort ;)
