NFS and NIS and automounting ??

you should not make /home a link to /mnt/home. when you log into a
system the autmount daemon will handle mounting server:/mnt/home/$USER
to /home/$USER. on your linux server you should have a process for this,
it looks like:
/usr/sbin/automount /home yp auto.home -nobrowse
create a global NIS group and make it your primary group, it will follow
you from system to system.
