Hi,

Glad to hear from you!

I'm a lady coming from China which is 13 hr time difference from you. Have you
heard of that country yet?

I felt helpless when setting foot in Linux world. Then I tried to find if anyone
could lend me a hand. Until someday, a perfect orgnization appeared in my
vision. That is NFLUG, with no nationality differences but warm-hearted friends
here concentrating on Linux technologies. Although I'm far from you, we're in
the same earth. We're in the same Linux world. We're in the same group ...

Could you introduce NFLUG history and its members? Maybe a group photo?:)

Thanks for your compliments. Also I hope you could have a chance to visit China.
It's easier than I come to USA.

Sincerely,
Kellie

Unfortunately Peter, we probably won't see Kellie unless he can make a really
long journey to come to the meeting. If you check his address, you'll see that
he's in the Peoples Republic of China (.cn domain). That doesn't stop him from
being a valuable contributer to the group, however.

Kellie, hopefully someday you can come here because it would be a pleasure to
meet you.

Cheers!

Did a search on ICANN and saw that it is for China, I guess that would be a
long trip, how did you know about the NFLUG? Your English is pretty good
too.

Thanks again Kellie for all the help. I actually figured it out before you
sent this and was just logging on to send you a mail telling you of that
when this email came in. It takes me a little but I am pretty persistent.
Thanks again, maybe I will see you at the next meeting? Hope so.

Hello Kelle,
Thank you very much for the info, however, I must be a complete idiot or
blind because in the samba configuration, I cannot figure out how to set the
settings. I see no listing of main setting [global] as in your list. I saw
the conf file and the examples, but when I change them or even tried to add
a group, [global], and save exiting with :wq! , it doesn't change anything.
>>From my windows machine, I can see the share of the linux box, but when I
try to browse it, I get an unauthorized message. I have tried to share
folders or change the permission in linux but that didn't seem to help
either. I don't believe I currently have a shared folder. If you could just
spell out the quickest and simplest procedure to create a share that can be
accessed from windows, I would really appreciate it. Lastly, assume that I
know nothing about Linux (gonna get there someday). Thanks again,

Hi Kellie,
I downloaded an entire book on Samba in .pdf but it is cumbersome looking
through those without printing out all the 300 or so pages. Could you give
me a quick scenario/explanation of how to configure/administer Samba. I have
installed it on RedHat 7. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The Samba version is 2.0.7 in Red Hat 7.0. I'm using both Windows 2000(NT)
and
Red Hat Linux 7.0 as PDC. They run stably.

I forget which version ships with Red Hat 7.0, but it is a 2.X, and did
support NT/Windows 98 authentication. Mind you, my system wasn't going
that long, it was a test system that got nicked for other purposes. If I
get another box to play with, I'll check again.

I have begun reading the SAMBA book. and I see that in 2.0 they do not
support
the NT domain authentication model, but promise it in 2.1, What version
are
you folks using that have SAMBA machines as PDC's and do you use NT
clients?
