Yes, it is. Supermount exists for 2.2.x in Mandrake source as well as a
separate patch (for those not using Mandrake). The pain was that a 2.4.x
version wasn't made, although Madrake hacked it into the 2.4.x kernel for
their own benefit (kudos to them).

Supermount doesn't work like that. It waits until media is present & then
automounts it. Kinda like KDE's autorun program, expect that it's kernel
run. This would help for floppies, Zip, cdrom's. Anything that can have
media removed while the OS is still running. I think supermount queries
for the media at the specified mount point (courtesy of fstab) every
second or so. This way, it seems almost immediate when it detects &
mounts a drive.
