Setting NIC to eth0/eth1

Check the motherboard manual for the BIOS settings and capabilities for the
PCI slot addressing. Most newer mb's allow and show addressing per pci slot.

Ouch!  This is one that I truly don't understand, either.  I generally swap
NIC
cables until stuff is right.  Then I mark the boards so I don't forget.
Anybody have a clue how PCI works?  I am guessing that each slot is
addressable, somehow and that each slot is poked in order to find out what's
there.
