James!
I just sat and read almost 12 posts and occasionaly raised an eyebrow,
chuckled, or grimaced. I can't spend very much time (not as much as I'd like)
responding. But this one REQUIRED a response.
I am in full support of a games group! And you've ruined my life. You pointed
out Loki Games and I just ordered Myth2:Soulblighter yesterday and have been
playing the demo. I've been dreaming tactics and avenues of approach fields of
fire OKOCA, METT-T and a bunch of other terms I haven't thought about since mt
LT days. My wife and cats are starting to get nervous when I mumble, "No the
dwarves must stay in front flanked by bowmen, teams of two foot units advace
from the right flank....
All kidding aside For me games have always gotten me to learn more than routine
(boring;-) tasks. I now have a working 3DFX card in my system and my Vibra16
SB card is pumping out the decibels, even got E sounds working (The explosion
when I closed a window was a bit too much though). I would never have thought
about those 2 pieces of hardware just using StarOffice:-) Also I am learning
"real" Linux admin (for those Spartans who feel computers are tools not to be
filled with the idle toys of the devil!), my 3DFX card works fine as root but
fails as "user"... why? When I figure that out I'll know a lot more about
permissions and the like.
I am still looking for my Quake 2 CD and I hope to get that installed this
weekend as well as the full version of Myth2 so I won't be getting much of
anything else done.
Side bar: The original length of meetings was 3 hours, 1-4 pm 2 hours formal 1
hour social (I thought ?)
Perhaps we could have a side meeting or start at 3 or 4 pm gaming next meeting
?? Let me know who would be interested. " Build a Linux box and when you're
done get fragged (or frag) by the others" Sounds like a topic to me...
