We have a single internet connection and our business clients use the web to get to us so if the ISP connection drops, we lose business, quickly. We're currently using Vaspian as both our telephone carrier and our ISP. I haven't been able to find out what they'd suppoort, yet, since they're apparently not in this week. We want to get to a multiple connection scheme but I don't know what the different ISPs support.

I've been readiing about VRRP and HSRP. I know that HSRP is proprietary to Cisco and VRRP is nominally a non-proprietary standard. As much as I love standards, if the ISPs don't support it, then I can't use it. I am in a position to have to do some quick costing to get this stuff on the
financial planning people and get some things done. We currently have a single Netscreen 100 that seems to be really good at losing connection state information with newer versions of Linux. I can't get a firmware upgrade for it 'cuz it's not on maintenance and they won't put it on mantenance since it's beyond "end of life".

I may wind up with just a single connection with a backup router that I can stick in it's place in the event of a failure in the primary router. It all comes down to what the costs versus the benefits are. It's great 'cuz I don't know wha management would find acceptable and what they wouldn't.

Cheers!

Bob
--
"When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return."
--Leonardo da Vinci<div style="font-family: times new roman,new york,times,serif; font-size:
