do a "which gcc" the path is probably or should be /usr/bin/gcc but it may be in /usr/sbin/gcc.<BR>
Can you do a "/sbin/service smb restart" ? You should also see a service of "nmb" restarting.<BR>

secondly i was trying to use samba...there is no
script to start service in /etc/init/rc.d/....
directory and ntsysv show no samba but is shows as an
installed package rpm -qa ...any ideas?
