<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I've been following the postings for sometime now
and have managed to get Mandrake 8.1 loaded and running thanks to the disks
handed out at the May meeting. I have the system connected to Adelphia's
PowerLink and have the cd-rom and floppy drive mounted and working.(
not too bad for a complete newbie ).</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2> However when I try to get the Zip
Drive mounted I get an error saying that " special device hdd4 does not
exist ". When I type in "dmesg" I can see a line saying --------- hdd
Iomega zip atapi etc.---- and another line entry in the /etc/fstab directory
identifying the hdd4 device, but no such listing exists in the /dev
directory.I have tried to create a new floppy device as "</FONT><FONT
face=Arial size=2>root" but I get another message saying I don't
have permission to do this which surprised me considering I was logged
in as root.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2> </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Any help with this is always appreciated. I have
other questions but I'm taking a one thing at a time approach.</FONT></DIV>
