The only issue for me is finding a place for more general "newbie" level
presentations.

If all the experts just go to their own sigs, etc., then who would be
available at an intro level discussion to answer questions or give
perspective?  There needs to be a balance.  Maybe having alternating
meetings of advanced/beginner topics or two presentations at the same
meeting would work.  Of course, this implies a lot of organizing work to
make it happen.
