Now audacity runs, but after several attempts and a look at a tutorial,
I am still clueless about how to configure it to record what is being
sent to my speakers. Any ideas on how to do that?

Also, when I click on Help->Index, I get a note about help not being
installed. It provides links to download or view online, but the links
don't do anything. Where can I get the full help file/documentation?

I found the audacity wiki, but nothing I found there seemed to help with
my issues.

When I open preferences->audio I/O I find the following options:
Playback
OSS: /dev/dsp
ALSA: HDA Intel: Conexant Analog Audio (Hw.0.0)
ALSA: HDA Intel: Conexant Digital Audio (Hw.0.1)
ALSA: front
ALSA: Surround40
ALSA: Surround51
ALSA: Surround71
ALSA: iec958
ALSA: spdif
ALSA: default
ALSA: dmix
JACK: Audio Connection Kit: alsa_pcm

Record
ALSA: HDA Intel: Conexant Analog Audio (Hw.0.0)
ALSA: default
JACK: Audio Connection Kit: alsa_pcm

I don't know what to select or what most of the options mean. I do have
a Conexant Audio "card" on my notebook motherboard.

Thanks.

Joe
