Oh, gotcha. I thought this was binding after the installation was completed and everything running fine. 

So if you've got that can't bind error for slapd, the problem is either something else is running on that port (which I assume isn't the case since you stated that openldap isn't installed, and I would imagine that you've ran a netstat and saw that nothing is listening on 389). 

The other problem could be a hostname mismatch. Have you checked and made sure your hosts file and dns entries all are correct for the hostname/ip combo for the vm in question?
