Edit your x file, whatever and whereever Debian keeps is,
/etc/X11/xorg,conf ?
Check your monitor specs and adjust accordingly.
Does your system have what Ubuntu does, in that the dpkg-reconfigure
package? If so, you could run dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg (if that's
the way Debian does it) and see what it picks up.
