"print" is a short shell script in my bin directory.  As far as lp is 
concerned, it's just a text file.  I thought that might be confusing.  
That's why I added the "./" on the front of it to try to make it more clear.

In the cups admin section, I selected deny users and typed in "None".  
Since "None" is not a user, effectively, it should allow anyone to print 
to the printer.  Is that correct?

It's behaving a bit better today (after reboots).  Now, lp knows how to 
spool a job, but not how to get it to a printer.
The cups test page prints fine and I can print from kate.  It's just lp 
that has a problem related to printcap (which says it's created from 
/etc/cups/printers.conf).
