[nflug] Ubuntu question (Backing Up your media for fair use)

dvdshrink by itself doesn't always handle "special" circumstances (eg where the
disk maker may have made specific false VOBs to avoid ripping or other equally
devious stuff). Once dvdbackup rips to disk the disk is already ripped with
all protection removed - sometimes (and I repeat sometimes) dvdshrink can't
handle certain protections and so by ripping the disk first (dvdbackup) then
dvdshrinking I always get the result I want - also I tend to have far more
difficulty than you seem to getting the drives to work correctly under apps
running in Wine.

For example forget about getting DVDDecrypter (Win application)working
correctly under Wine- some I know have but I can't seem to get it just right.

I have yet to do a stopwatch test to see if dvdbackup rip then dvdshrink recode
works faster thatn a dvdshrink rip/recode all in one. Seems they are about the
same. Have to look into that one. The biggest thing for me is that dvdshrink
has had trouble with dvd protect schemes and I avoid that by ripping first.

YMMV :-)
