In k3b, how is the device configured? How does it show under settings, 
configure k3b, devices? Is your 2.6 kernel of the 2.6.8 flavor? I 
remember that having all sorts of issues with k3b. You could apt-get 
yourself a new kernel and see if it fixes things.
