Holy crap!  that's cheap at only $39.97 (after 10 rebate) It should work just
fine as long as you have a relatively modern distro. (use a 2.6.11 or newer
kernel for best CD writing performance)

I have an external DVD+-R/RW/RAM/CDRW drive in a firewire chassis and it works
flawlessly,  my internal CDRW burner works just as well too and has never given
me a lick of trouble in linux.
