File system not writable or Read only File System errors

we need some more details from you on this.

1. what program are you using when this happens, i'm assuming firefox?
2. what directory are you downloading into?
3. output from the 'mount' command
4. mount point entry from /etc/fstab

have you tried using another program to download into said directory, 
wget or ftp?
