Cyber Source,
    Thank you so much!  It ran perfectly w/no error messages!  xmms 
working perfectly and rock solid (when  I used xmms with some other 
distros if I evened opened a text file audio playback would "crackle). 
Since I'm new and never used apt-get before I've got a lot or research 
to do now, but briefly, is it similar to the suse YOU and the mandrake  
RPMDrake, and did it update all my programs and packages?
