gaim and downloader for x

The way we do fonts:

$ cp /PATH_TO_NEW_FONTS/*.ttf /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/
$ cd /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/
$ chmod 444 *.ttf
$ mkfontdir
$ mkfontscale
$ cd ~
$ ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/ .fonts
Restart X

That will make a symbolic link in your home called .fonts to read your
font directory. That's the way we've done it since RedHat x, and every
program does fine. Try that, -Jesse
