Is the display capable of viewing more than 800x600? If so, check your 
monitor settings (system settings, display), you may be able to change 
the monitor.
The modem will need an rpm to work. Go to linuxant.com and download the 
driver for your kernel and cpu. They have a free driver (throttled) and 
a full driver that costs 14.95. The full one is not worth it, believe 
me, I've been down that road many many times. Get the free driver, it 
works fine for a dial up.
