Yes-- The interface isn't eth0. 
You should be able to determine the interface by looking through /etc/path_to_inst

Also, before you can use the interface you have to plumb it-

ifconfig dev0 plumb  

where dev0 is your nic.

Also, eth0 is the name linux gives to the first ethernet ineterface - it
differs in solaris depending on the interface type.

Your recognized interfaces should be locate in files named
"hostname.<if_type>" in /etc

I'm assuming this is also for a PC and not a sparc. Make sure your NIC is
supported:
