I'm ignorant and confused :-[
Tell me if I've got this right.

IRC and ICQ are not the same thing.
ICQ is like an email prog, where you can send a message to a specific 
person if you know their address.
IRC is more like a web browser, where any number of  people can access 
the same web page [channel] at the same time. 
Is this a pretty fair analogy ?

And what is an "eggdrop" ??
