Don't go by the name on the scanner.  If it's a USB scanner, try connecting it
and typing 'lsusb' (you have to have the USB utils loaded) to find out what it
really is.  A lot of these things have different names but the same chipset in
them.  In all likelyhood, that Umax is probably a microtek chipset.  Once you
know the chipset, you should be all set.  I know that Mandrake tends to pick
the things up all by itself and Gimp has it listed when you go to
'Xtns->Acquire Image'.
