Q

I'm thinking this question's probably come up here before, but I'm going
to pose it anyway; I've got a Compaq Presario 2140 with Windows XP
installed, and I'd like to install Gentoo without wiping and
repartitioning. Can anyone recommend any free tools that they've found
reliable for resizing partitions for use with WinXP and Gentoo? I'd
appreciate any advise you've got to give

A

The best way I have found is to use a Knoppix cd to boot the system and
then use either ntfsresize from the command line or qtparted if you
prefer a graphical way of doing it. You can also use a Mandrake 9.1 or
higher install cd as it includes the ntfs programs mentioned above. I
was able to use a Knoppix cd to shrink a 40GB NTFS partition down to
15GB without a problem. I'm assuming that your partition is NTFS and if
it is not then what I have said isnt really relevant.
