When working with a NT/2000/XP connection, you need to enable:

encrypt passwords = yes
security = USER

If you want your linux box to provide non-password required shares, add:

null passwords = yes

(This would go into your smb.conf file)

> I can see the linux redhat 7.2 workgroup name in windows 2000 Network neighborhood but when I click on it says network not found type of error. I can t acccess my linux box. I created a share on SWAT. It must have to do with with rights or a setting I am not doing in SWAT! I had problems setting it up too because 7.2 uses xinetd and there is all this info for inetd which I think was used with older versions. There is too much misinformation! I tried using the Linux Bible 7.1 and it dosent tell you everything. thank god there is a users group everyone has been a great help!
