Mandrake 8.0 Growing Pains

That's pretty bizarre.  Check on the mandrake site in the FAQ and tech sections
to see if there's anything there about the lockups.

I DO know that Mandrake is only installable on Pentium machines.  You cannot
install on a '486.  Everything in the system is compiled with pentium flags in
the compiler, even the kernel.

The only other system I've seen with any kind of problem is a weird motherboard
with built in Adaptec 9XXX or some such SCSI chip set.  I don't know if it was
the drive or the controller 'cuz 7.2 didn't work well on it, either.  Lots of
drive errors.  I suspect that the machine needs to have the SCSI bios updated.

It would help if you knew who made the motherboard in the laptop.  There might
be info on the site about that board and whether there is a bug somewhere.
